#Athleisure explained: the sport of #fashion
Good news for us fitness-ites - we’re fashionable! Wearing our compression shorts and yoga togs more places than just the gym has landed us in magazines like Vogue and InStyle with our own trend buzzword: athleisure.   catwalkFor high-end designers like Chanel and Karl Lagerfeld, the athleisure trend gives permission to come up with some items you won’t be seeing during actual competition, like Juicy Couture “track suits”. It’s no flash-in-the-fashion-pan, however: 2014 was a bad year for denim retailers. More of us have been wearing yoga pants, compression tights, and leggings than jeans. Comfort is one obvious reason, but health benefits are another. Compression pants, shorts, shirts and sleeves increase blood flow and prevent it from pooling, which is especially good for people who stand or sit for long periods of time (not something that typically happens in the gym). So office workers and those who work on their feet all day both benefit from the same garments. If you endure a long commute to and from work every day, athleisure is a look you can benefit from also. And, let’s face it, it saves time. I have no love for locker rooms, no matter how well-kept they may be. Blame public high school if you want, but I spend as little time in locker rooms as possible - I need to work out and then hit the road to get on with my day! Get started on the trend with bottoms: compression tights are perfect for the current chilly season. Pick up a couple of pairs in your most versatile colors.
